Dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals in Kingston with intellectual disabilities through the power of sport

The Julie Fund is an endowment made possible by
Mr. John Robert McAulay (October 9, 1949 - May 8, 2021)

Retired founder - CEO of The MPSL GROUP (a video production company), musician, race car driver and friend to many.

Among his many accomplishments, John had deep friendships that he valued and were reciprocated.

Two very dear friends are filmmaker/author, Catherine Gourdier and her husband, film producer, Don Carmody. John was introduced to Special Olympics when Catherine started organizing fundraising events in Julie's memory after her mother and sister were killed in a tragic car accident in November, 2009.

Julie Gourdier was an active, happy Special Olympics athlete from Kingston. In her sorrow, Catherine, with some help from her family, set out to raise funds for the Kingston chapter. Kingston's head basketball coach Concetta Buragina and Catherine created an annual award called, The Joy of Julie award. Over the next decade, Catherine and her family continued their support for the movement and through their association and benevolence, created the link to John MacAulay.

John's passing has left a void with many people, but his legacy to Special Olympics lives on through the Julie Fund.

Focus:

The “Julie Fund” will support Special Olympics projects and/or events that increase the growth of Special Olympics Ontario. Primary emphasis will highlight projects that enhance Special Olympics in Kingston and area, but other projects will be considered on a case by case basis.
